Health Discomfort During Air Travel

It is said and studied that air travel is the safest of all travels. There are many worried flyers traveling over. A sudden drop in cabin pressure or the moment to flight take off and many other flight fluctuations cause numerous disorders in a person. This is not baseless as there are a number of problems associated with air travel they all are mentioned below:

  • Motion Sickness: Minimize vomiting by booking a seat in the middle section which is much stable part of the plane. This will help you maintain a good appetite throughout your travel.
  • Shortness Of Breath: People with drastic anemia, heart diseases and lung diseases suffer this problem as oxygen in flight is not available in appropriate proportion.
  • Ear Discomfort and Pain: These pains are caused by varied air pressure and are quite sharp. You can feel sinus generally when the plane descends. This can be overcome by swallowing rapidly, chewing gum and yawning. Other effective way to overcome it is to exert out the air forcefully through your nose when your mouth is pinched shut.
  • Post Surgical Travels: If you are travelling after some recent operations or surgeries. Recent abdominal surgery or to retain a detained retina need to be approved by the surgeons if one is planning for an instant air trip after the surgical procedures. This is because the air gasses may trouble you on your trip.
  • Blood clots and deep vein thrombosis: This can happen if you have sealed yourself in the same place for quite long. This generally happen with the pregnant woman, an old age person, the one suffering from circulatory problems, have suffered deep-vein thrombosis, and heart diseases.
  • Spreading Of Communicable Disease: The communicable diseases are more prone to capture you. There is no escape for you as the air in the cabin gets re-circulated and you cannot save yourself if a diseased person has exhaled air which will be passed on to you. The risk of catching swine flu, tuberculosis and viral infection is higher when you are flying with a diseased co passenger that any other open crowded place.
  • Jet Lag: This happens when after long flights you suffer from few sleeping disorders. This also sometimes results in emotional stress and fatigue. One should be careful if he is going to drive a car after passing through a long air travel. To overcome the situation, hormone melatonin should be taken timely which help in normalizing sleep during one’s travel.

Every problem related to air travel can be easily overcome. One is required to have a complete dental check-up before booking a flight. Also, it is advised not to travel by air if one is suffering from deadly communicable disease.
